National Taxpayers Union President Pete Sepp Statement of Support on Reforming the U.S. Air Traffic Control System
A typical middle class traveler can pay more taxes on an airline ticket than on a 1040 income tax return -- and the President has earned a big round of applause for working to reduce both of these terrible burdens. The FAA's woeful attempt to update the air traffic control system is over budget and behind schedule. Taxpayers deserve better, and the President along with Secretary Chao are demonstrating they're ready to deliver. The Administration's plan for a user-funded alternative is a proven way to provide not only safer, better service but also lower, more predictable costs. This is the kind of leadership we need, in cooperation with Congress, to make air travel more accountable to those who pay for it.
